HAVERHILL LC CASE STUDY FINALAbbeycroft Leisure decided to implement our On-Site Utility Solution at its Haverhill Leisure Centre. Their plan was that substantial portion of their electricity, heat and cooling will be generated at their own site; rather than buying energy from the national grid. The savings have been delivered by a combination of a 100 kilowatt combined heat and power system (CHP) and an 85 kilowatt gas engine VRF heat pump – both of which have been provided on the basis that the equipment is owned, operated and maintained by EuroSite Power meaning zero capital outlay for Abbeycroft Leisure. We have now installed two more CHPs at two other Abbeycroft Leisure Centres in Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

Facilities:

  • State of the art fitness suite, health suite and free weight room
  • Competitive swimming pool
  • Sports hall, squash & tennis courts and multi-purpose studios and rooms
  • Leisure and health facilities
  • Large children’s play area – “Kid City”

Gross CO2 saved from July ’12 to Mar ’22
Energy saving from July ’12 to Mar ’22
Electricity generated from August ’16 to Mar ’22
Heat generation from August ’16 to Mar ’22

GOALS

Reduce operating costs

Electricity – lighting and power for public areas, bedrooms, and hotel facilities

Heat – hot water production for space heating and leisure facilities

Air conditioning systems – used to keep rooms and whole complex cool

CHALLENGES

Size and complexity of the site

Our technical solution needed to be able to accommodate future energy demand

The new system had to fit in to the available space in the plant room

Air-conditioning to refurbished areas was needed; but without increasing electrical load (due to capacity issues on main incomer)

SOLUTIONS

Implemented: On-Site Utility Solution

100 kilowatt combined heat and power system (CHP)

85 kilowatt gas engine VRF heat pump (air conditioning)

“We were impressed that EuroSite Power finances the equipment – including its installation and ongoing maintenance – which takes all the hassle and risk out of meeting our future energy needs.”
